The idea of provoking thought… that got me thinking more and had a major influence on how I have approached email outreach. Previously, my strategy was always to lay the facts on the line. ‘This is what we do. We're credible. Is this something you want? Do you have some time? Done.’ And that worked for me when calling. But over time I’m open to ideas without abandoning my core. And that's what you did for me. The most uncomfortable part for me is still the short length of my messages. Because in my brain I want to say more. And it's really hard to stop using words like "we", 'I', or any language that puts us in the spotlight. So, I'm constantly iterating and shortening my messages. I'm better at consistently getting them down to 65-70 words. This would have gotten me kicked out of business school back in the day, right? Learning how to construct Facilitative questions has been eye opening. I hate feeling like I’m barging into someone’s inbox uninvited. It feels very selfish. Asking facilitative questions feels like it takes some of the pain away for both sides. I used open- ended questions in the past -- and I knew they worked. But I had no idea WHY they worked. Facilitative questions almost delight people and basically open them up to ask you to sell to them. I’m much clearer now on how to form and apply these questions based on how they work.

Previously, my strategy was always to lay the facts on the line. ‘This is what we do. We're credible. Is this something you want? Do you have some time? Done.’ And that worked for me when calling. But over time I’m open to ideas without abandoning my core. And that's what you did for me. The most uncomfortable part for me is still the short length of my messages. Because in my brain I want to say more. And it's really hard to stop using words like "we", 'I', or any language that puts us in the spotlight. So, I'm constantly iterating and shortening my messages. I'm better at consistently getting them down to 65-70 words. This would have gotten me kicked out of business school back in the day, right?
